Wednesday 17th September

Saints played again tonight, managed a 2-2 draw at home to Ipswich. As usual, we looked threatening going forward, but very poor at the back, need to get Michael Svensson back to full fitness back ASAP. Once again Kelvin Davis kept the saints in the game with a string of fine saves in the first half and I was glad Ipswich 'keeper Richard Wright got a good reception from the home fans after his successful loan spell here last season. Whens saints went 2-1 down early in the second half, the response from the fans in the Northam end (where I sit) was great, we kept the faith by out singing the away fans who had just taken the lead. I think that kind of support even whilst losing is vital and played an important part in Pekhart's equaliser for the saints. We've got a very young squad and they can only grow in confidence if we get behind them and sing our hearts out for the lads like we did in the Northam last night. Next up is Barnsley at home on Saturday and even though its still very early in the season a lot of people are saying its a must win game against a team who are clear favourites for relegation. My only worry is that Barnsley will come here and their strength and experience will cancel out our attacking threat, as was the case at home to Blackpool a few weeks ago. We can only get behind the team again and hope for three points.
Onto politics now. I was impressed with Nick Clegg's speech to the Lib Dem party conference, he seems a much better option to Ming Campbell, who I think had lost touch with the modern voter. I was fortunate enough to meet Mr Clegg last year and he may have made the mistake of revealing too much of his personal life to Piers Morgan for GQ magazine (Clegg claimed to have slept with "no more than 30 women"), but I generally feel he is the right man to take the party forward, with the support of Vince Cable. His speech declared that the Liberal Democrats are "heading for government" and though it may be long time yet, I think he might be right, they just need to capitalise on the decline of Labour by becoming the number one left wing party. I confidently predict that the Liberal Democrats will be in power by the year 2030, ending a hundred year wait.
That's enough from me for now, will update sometime over the weekend.
